Announcing Our 2021 Festivals

Remember a while back when we asked you the opposite of the word fallow? Well, let’s kick it off, because we are officially ON for Summer 2021! We are thrilled to announce that we will produce all of our festivals this year. Yes, all of them! Wow, that feels good to say. What a momentous day! This includes Telluride Bluegrass, RockyGrass, Folks Festivals, Mabon, as well as Song School and Academy.

We spent last year adjusting to a new normal. In the limited light, we began a slow walk through winter, gaining momentum as the days grew longer. We stoked the embers on the Equinox, and they grew brighter as we flowed into weeks bursting with Spring Grass. And soon, we approach the Solstice.

This year, the Telluride Bluegrass Festival will be split into two separate weekends; the traditional Solstice weekend (June 17-20), and the Friday - Sunday before (June 11-13). We will be operating at a reduced capacity of 2,500 people per day. We are doing this to accommodate for the extensive Covid precautions we will have in place.

All Festivarians will be socially distanced in self selected corrals of 10, and we have coordinated limited camping in town. We will forgo our traditional sponsor/ vendor areas. We worked tirelessly with the town to coordinate a plan that everyone feels safe with, and we are excited to explore a new frontier of Telluride Bluegrass this year.

The Festivarian almanac guarantees seven days of music under the solstice sun. We will bask in the warmth of familiar singing voices, as we are returning to our roots with some of our oldest friends. We will announce the lineup in the next two weeks!

Existing ticket holders will receive preference to buy tickets to all 2021 festivals. We will reach out to all Telluride rollovers this week to outline the available options. There is the possibility that there will be no leftover corrals to go on sale to the general public, and we want to set this expectation on the front end.

Thank you all for your patience through this process. Our eyes are on the future, and we’re full steam ahead. This year will be different, and we are so grateful for the opportunity to present live music to you once again. You will all be hearing more from us soon. It’s Pandemonium on the Planet in the very best way possible.

With love,
The Planet Bluegrass Family

May 22, 2020 - Coronavirus Update

“There is nothing I hate more than canceling shows.” – John Prine

Greetings Festivarians! The time has come to say it out loud - the fields of Planet Bluegrass will lie fallow for the 2020 Festival Season. Obvious and unbelievable. Oh, how we will miss you. Oh, how we’ll miss ourselves when we’re with you! Emails will go out shortly explaining how to refund or roll tickets over to next year.

We’ve sent scouts ahead to find a trail.
The rest of us?

A fallowing we shall go…

We are finally able to inform Festivarian Nation that the Forty-Seventh Telluride Bluegrass Festival has been laid to fallow.

This is the easiest and most difficult decision that Planet Bluegrass has ever made; and, just when we had summoned the courage to finally announce to the world, John Prine passed.

These words have been erased a dozen times. Neither fire, nor flood. A bug.

It is a devastating realization that the very reason for the existence of Planet Bluegrass is unsafe to festivarians at this time. And far more devastating for the artists to feel the very purpose of their soul should not be expressed, at a time it’s needed most.

We know the word has leaked out and apologize we haven’t had a public announcement while we’ve scurried to have personal conversations with “the family.” It’s a big family, and the conversations are tender.

And so now we turn to you, Festivarian Nation.

Won’t you fallow forth with us? We don’t know the way, but we know where we are going. The journey to Festivaria is more mysterious than ever; but, we will gather again.

We will be contacting all ticket holders directly and offering full refunds. Please look for an email in the coming week.

How will you fallow?

With hearts full of amazement and hope,

Ferg and the Planet Bluegrass Family
