Accessibility Information

Planet Bluegrass welcomes all Festivarians. Our goal is to create a friendly, accepting atmosphere with access for everyone. In an effort to better serve our community we have made changes to our Accessibility Policy. Please note there will no longer be early access to the Festival. Please read the entire section below.

What to Expect

The Venue - Planet Bluegrass Ranch

The festival grounds are located on the Planet Bluegrass Ranch. A map is available here to show the Festival layout and accessibility features.

The grounds are made up of a large grass field with hard-packed dirt and gravel pathways, ranging from ¾” rock to hard pack. Access paths leading into the grounds are a mixture of concrete pathways and hard-packed dirt pathways. Most of the terrain is flat however there are a few areas with slight slopes.

Chairs and shade structures are NOT provided and must be brought in by attendees. To help provide clear views, the field is divided into areas where low-back, high-back and shade structures are allowed. Many people bring in Tarps (10’ x 10’ maximum) to lay on the ground however these are not allowed in the accessibility seating areas.

The Festival is general admission for the 4,500 attendees. Accessibility seating areas are reserved for those that meet the requirements below. Entrance into the festival is determined by a random lineup process that restarts each night ahead of the day of Festival.

Bathroom Facilities are a mix of plumbed toilets and sinks (bathhouse) and portable toilets with temporary handwashing stations.

Food and Craft vendors are located along the back and side of the park and accessed via hard-packed dirt pathways. A filtered water station is available to fill up water bottles.

A Medical Tent is located near the West Gate Entrance with medical personnel available for first aid situations and carries medical supplies including sunscreen, earplugs, bandages, medications etc.

The North Saint Vrain River runs along the edge of the festival. If you wish to enjoy the water it is at your own risk, there are no life guards on duty. It is recommended to bring anything necessary to make it a fun and safe experience including watershoes, floatation devices, dry clothes etc..

Electricity and Wifi are not available for use by the general public.

Expect amplified music for the duration of the festival. If you are sensitive to sound it is recommended to bring your protective/assistive hearing devices.

Expect bright lighting on stage, and at times in the audience, once the sun goes down.

The Weather

Colorado can experience dramatic weather shifts, making preparation essential for a safe and enjoyable experience. Due to its high-altitude, and location Lyons, Colorado experiences volatile and extreme weather. Rapid temperature changes, sudden storms, and unpredictable conditions are common and to be expected.

Key Weather Characteristics and Recommendations

  1. Sun Intensity – The high elevation leads to strong UV exposure even at low temperatures. Wear UV protective clothing, sunglasses, and hats. Apply sunscreen often! Bring a shade structure (only allowed in certain areas).
  2. Sudden Temperature Drops – Daytime highs can reach in the 100s°F but temperatures may plummet into the 30s°F at night. It is recommended to bring many different types of clothing layers.
  3. Afternoon Thunderstorms – Summer months (June-August) often bring short but intense thunderstorms, sometimes with hail, high winds, and lightning. Download the Festival App for instant notifications.
  4. Strong Winds – Mountain ridges and valleys experience gusty winds, which can intensify weather shifts and make outdoor conditions challenging. Dusty conditions are common. A face mask may be helpful if you have pulmonary disabilities.
  5. Low Oxygen & Dry Air – At 5,374 feet (1,628 meters), the air is thin and dry, causing dehydration and altitude sickness for some visitors. Supplemental canned oxygen is available at stores in and around the Town of Lyons.
