Campers’ Guide

It takes the power of an entire community to host a sustainable festival experience.

In order to cut down on waste, lessen the impact of your campsite, and keep the local wildlife wild, we all need to do our part to camp right. Together with the help of our partner, the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics, we have compiled a list of best camping practices to implement when you visit any one of our festivals.

Campers

Know Before You Go

  • Consider buying food from local suppliers or bring it from your own garden.
  • Before you arrive, repackage food into reusable containers, keeping that additional packaging at home.
  • Bring reusable cups, plates, napkins, etc. This will reduce the amount of trash you create at the festival.
  • Visit our camping guidelines page to learn about what you should and should not bring with you.
  • Look out for recycled goods and those packaged in recycled material.

Camp Right

  • Camp only in designated zones and avoid damaging any vegetation. Always camp on a durable surface.
  • Good campsites are found not made, and always bring chairs, tables, etc to make your site comfortable.

Trash Your Trash

  • Re-use is the name of the game! Try to reuse your plates, utensils, cups, and other items.
  • Secure all belongings to reduce blown trash and unwanted visits from critters.
  • Separate your trash into categories for composting, recycling, and landfill.
  • Try to set an example for others and if you see your neighbor struggling lend a happy hand.

Keep Wildlife Wild

  • Never feed, follow, or approach local animals.
  • Human food is unhealthy for all wildlife, and feeding them can lead to dangerous habits.

Respect Other Campers

  • Respect the community by being a model Festivarian and treat others as you would want to be treated.
  • Establish clean and green camping. Work with other nearby campers to share your resources.

Additional Camping Hacks

  • Save lime or potato bags that are plastic mesh, cut them up and use them as dish scrubbers.
  • Make a list to plan for low impact camping before next year.
  • Use an old mesh fruit bag to strain your gray water and compost the leftover food scraps.
  • Turn your phone off for 4 days and enjoy the nature, people, and music.
  • Drink local beer, eat local food, share resources with neighbors.
  • Bring your own garbage cans from home to minimize plastic bags.
  • Fill large tupperware with water and freeze to make your own block ice to reduce plastic bags from ice.
  • Reusable water jugs.
  • Use the power of the sun to recharge your electronics.
  • Share food with neighbors instead of throwing it away.
  • Share sustainability with the children in your camp.
