New Tarp Size Policy
New Policy as of 2021: Due to overwhelming Festivarian feedback, we will be limiting the maximum tarp size for RockyGrass: Tarps may not exceed 10’ in length or width. As in past years, we expect that most groups will bring smaller tarps, occupying just the space they need. But any tarps larger than 10’ in any dimension will need to be folded to fit within a 10’x10’ space.
Parking
Every year, the biggest problem we have at the Lyons Festivals is Festivarians parking in residential areas and in front of businesses. When you come to the Festivals please park only in designated areas. There is a nominal fee, but it will strengthen the relationship with the town and its residents while securing the future of the Festivals. Thanks!
If you are coming to the Festival and not camping, you must park in the designated parking lot at the Planet Bluegrass Farm ($10 cash or less for the entire festival with unlimited re-entry, daily parking available also). There will be plenty of signs to direct you. If you are camping and would like your vehicle with you, make sure you have purchased a vehicle pass. Every vehicle on-site must have a vehicle pass. A vehicle is considered anything requiring a license plate and/or has wheels. This pass is separate from your camping pass. The parking area and campgrounds are serviced by a free shuttle bus to the festival. We encourage you to walk or bring your bicycle!
Rules & Guidelines
- Show goes on rain or shine.
- No pets - including dogs, cats, birds, or any other animals - are allowed anywhere in the Festival grounds, campgrounds, or parking lots and cars. It would be cruel to bring your pet to this Festival. Dogs do not like crowds, heat, or traffic. If you need to kennel your dog, here are a few local options:

- In the spirit of Festivarianism, if you see an empty tarp, feel free to have a seat until the owner returns.
On-Site Campground: Load-In Policy
GENERAL INFO
Due to high demand for Festival camping spots, Planet Bluegrass will be utilizing a random lottery process to determine the order of access to the Onsite Campground. The goal of this process is to maintain a fair, orderly load in that minimizes stress for everyone!
- The 2022 RockyGrass On-Site Campground opens at 6pm on Thursday, July 28, 2022.
- Planet Bluegrass Staff will facilitate a vehicle lineup from 9am to 11am at the Planet Bluegrass Farm (located 0.3 miles northwest of the On-Site Campground on Highway 36 - view map).
- Vehicles may not arrive at the Planet Bluegrass Farm earlier than 9am on Thursday, July 28, 2022 (the same day the On-Site Campground opens).
- To avoid a line prior to 9am on Thursday, vehicles arriving at the Planet Bluegrass Farm anytime between 9am-11am will receive a lottery number assigning them a random spot in the On-Site Campground vehicle lineup (see below). Please try to arrive between 9am and 10:30am to help prevent long lines caused by numerous vehicles arriving close to 11am.
- If you plan to arrive in Lyons a day or more before the On-Site Campground opens, you will need to find your own camping/lodging. No overnight camping is allowed at Bohn Park, at the Planet Bluegrass Farm, or on public streets in Lyons.
- If you were planning to arrive prior to Thursday, July 28, we encourage you to explore many of the beautiful camping options in our area including Lavern M Johnson Park in Lyons, Camp Dick, Pawnee Campground at Brainard Lake, and numerous campgrounds around Estes Park.

Initial Line-Up Procedure (lottery)
To discourage any arrivals to the Planet Bluegrass Farm prior to 9am and to make this initial lineup process as stress-free and fair as possible, we will be using a “random lottery” procedure for the initial lineup from 9:00am - 11am on Thursday morning, July 28. (If you arrive after 11am on Thursday, you will simply proceed to the end of the line.)
- Vehicles arriving at the Planet Bluegrass Farm between 9:00am and 11am on Thursday, July 28 will be given a random lineup number, similar to our nightly tarp line numbers.
- These numbers will truly be random, so someone arriving at 10:00am will have the same chance of receiving a low lineup space as someone arriving right at 9:00am.
- Only ONE lottery number will be given to each vehicle.
- Once you receive a lottery number, your vehicle MUST remain in line until the load in at 6pm. You are welcome to walk off the farm property to grab food or coffee, play music by the river, or say hello to our many farm animals, but your vehicle must remain.
- Vehicles that leave the line-up after receiving a number will forfeit their spot in line and will not be given a new number if they return to the lottery.
- Planet Bluegrass staff will assist vehicles in proceeding to the marked parking space corresponding to their lottery number.
- At Noon, the random lottery will end. All vehicles that were on the PBG Farm property by 11am will be allowed to draw a lottery number.
- After lottery numbers have been given to all eligible vehicles (probably around 11:30am), Planet Bluegrass Staff will consolidate the randomized lines.
- We ask that everyone be back at their cars by 11:30am for the consolidation.
- ALL cars will be moved forward to fill in any gaps for lottery numbers that did not get drawn.
- IF YOU ARE NOT AT YOUR CAR WHEN WE MOVE THE LINES FORWARD, WE WILL TAKE THE ENTIRE LINE AROUND YOU AND YOU WILL END UP WITH A WORSE SPOT IN LINE THAN YOU DREW IN THE LOTTERY!
- After vehicles are consolidated to form lines ready for campground load in, your lottery number will be exchanged for your actual number in line. Your line number may be lower than your lottery number, if numbers in front of you don’t get pulled in the lottery.
- All vehicles arriving after noon will receive the next available space at the end of the line.
- These vehicles will be given a line number upon arrival.
- After the lineup lottery and consolidation are complete, you may leave your vehicle again until the onsite Load In at 6pm. (See procedure below)
Please remember: Vehicles MAY NOT ARRIVE EARLIER THAN 9:00AM at the Planet Bluegrass Farm on Thursday, July 28 (and with this lottery procedure there is absolutely no benefit to arriving any earlier!). YOUR VEHICLE WILL BE TICKETED & TOWED IF YOU PARK ALONG HIGHWAY 36.
If you arrive before 9:00am, we highly recommend you relax and grab breakfast at one of Lyons’ coffee shops or restaurants and casually drive over to the Planet Bluegrass Farm after the 9:00am opening.
On-Site Campground Load-In Procedure
- Due to concerns from the Sheriff’s Department, each vehicle may only contain as many occupants as available seat belts. Vehicles with more people than the vehicle can safely transport, will be pulled from the line until each passenger is removed from the vehicle (or wearing a seatbelt).
- At 6:00pm on Thursday, vehicles will be escorted from the Planet Bluegrass Farm to the On-Site Campground on the Planet Bluegrass Ranch. Vehicles must remain in order. Vehicles that arrive at the Ranch out of order will not be allowed entry into the campground.
- Vehicles will be admitted to the Ranch in order according to their number. Don’t lose your number or you will have to go to the end of the line!
- Due to safety concerns, NO pedestrian walk-ins to the on-site campground will be allowed until all vehicles in the lineup have entered the on-site campground.
- All roads are one-way and the speed limit is strictly 5 MPH. For the safety of everyone, PLEASE DRIVE SLOWLY.
- Once you have entered the Onsite Campground on the Planet Bluegrass Ranch, please remember that ALL vehicles and campers must be parked adjacent to a roadway in the campground.
- This rule is strictly enforced because vehicles and RV’s can become “camped-in” by tents if they are not adjacent to a roadway, making it very difficult to leave until all tents around them have left.
- Please DO NOT stop in the middle of any roadways to unload or let people out of your vehicle. If you need to stop, please pull off the road before doing so.
- We MUST keep all roads clear to prevent the lines from backing up onto the highway and disrupting traffic!
- Please unload necessary items and move your car to the Farm parking area BEFORE setting up your camp in order to allow others the opportunity to find a site as well.
- There is limited space in the Academy campground, and we rely on people moving their vehicles to the parking lot in order to have space for everyone!
- In the interest of encouraging people to quickly unload their vehicles and return them to The Farm parking area during the onsite camping load in, Planet Bluegrass is enacting a new re-entry policy. We recognize that some campers will be able to unload their equipment, return their car to The Farm parking area, and walk back to the onsite campground before the pedestrian campers are released into the campground. In the past, these campers who have quickly unloaded and moved their vehicle to make room for fellow Festivarians have had to wait with the pedestrian line to re-enter the onsite campground. In order to encourage prompt vehicle removal and reduce wait times for people returning from parking their car, the following policy will be in place during the load in:
- Drivers will retain their line number after it is checked by staff members as they enter the property.
- Once their car is returned to The Farm parking area, the driver can walk back and present their number to the front gate attendant between “waves” of vehicles to be let back into the property before the pedestrian line is released.
- NOTE: The returning Festivarian can NOT bring anything into the grounds with them upon their return.
- If you have any trouble finding a camping spot, please talk to Planet Bluegrass Staff within the campground, and they will assist you!
LaVern Johnson Campground: Load-In Policy
The LaVern Johnson Park Campground opens at 9:30am on Wednesday, July 27. Due to the opening being closer to the festival than usual, Planet Bluegrass is enacting a new lineup policy to accommodate all arrivals and provide a fair and positive experience for all. The lineup policy will be strictly enforced as follows:
- Campers with a TENT CAMPING pass may begin lining up for a space at 6am on Wednesday, July 27.
- Vehicles will be parked in the main parking lot and campers will be able to enter the pedestrian line with a tarp.
- At 9:30am, the pedestrian line will be released, and campers can claim spots with their tarps.
- Campers with a VEHICLE camping pass may begin lining up for a space at 6am on Wednesday, July 27.
- Vehicles will be lined up in order of arrival.
- At 9:30am, vehicles will be moved into their camping spaces.
- Campers with an RV camping pass may NOT enter LaVern Johnson Park before 10am.
- If you arrive in Lyons before 10am with your RV, please park in legal public parking available in town.
- At 10am, RV’s may begin to enter the park.
- RV’s will be placed in available spaces at the discretion of the camp host.
- Campers who have paid the Town of Lyons to remain in their campsites the night of Tuesday, July 26, may keep their campsites set up and transition them into Planet Bluegrass Camping if they have a valid RockyGrass camping pass.
- However, TENTS MAY ONLY BE PLACED ON GRAVEL TENT PADS.
- If you would like to place a tent in the grass adjacent to your site, you must join the pedestrian line at 6am.
- Any tarps or tents on any grass before 9:30am will be confiscated by Planet Bluegrass Staff.
- NOTE: Per town ordinance, overnight camping or parking is only allowed in designated campsites with a purchased pass. Sleeping in vehicles in the parking lot or leaving campers in the parking lot is not allowed.
Designated Family Camping Area
Please note that we will be designating the northwestern-corner of the campground as a family camping area with quiet hours from midnight-7am. (View a map of the family camping area.) If your group intends to be up late pickin’, please plan to camp outside this family camping area. Thanks!
Tarp Line Policy
Because we have had many complaints about the overnight line to get into the show, we have established a new policy in hopes of creating a kinder, gentler, more Festivarian-like entry each morning. Please keep in mind that the entry line is a complicated logistical problem and we have developed these rules with a lot of experience and a number of factors in consideration. Our goal is to create an entry procedure that will be fair, orderly, and will satisfy the greatest number of Festivarians.
- Festivarians may begin assembling for the next day’s line numbers no earlier than 11pm.
- At around midnight, the number line will be led through the customs gate, where we will distribute random numbers and mark wristbands to show receipt of a number.
- These numbers will be shuffled randomly; each person may receive no more than one number. We will mark each person’s wristband to ensure that no one receives more than one number per night.
- The next morning, Festivarians should re-assemble in line-number order beginning one hour before gates. Festivarians will be admitted into the Festival in this randomly-assigned order, followed by all Festivarians without line numbers.
- During the initial tarp run, Festivarians may carry in a single tarp, not larger than 10’ x 10’. (If your tarp doesn’t fit inside a 10’ x 10’ space, we will ask you to fold it to fit within those maximum dimensions.)
Refund Policy
- If you need a refund, please e-mail: help@seetickets.us. The subject line of your email should read: “RockyGrass Refund - (your name)”. Please include your See Tickets order number (begins with the letters “gn”) along with exact details of your refund request.
- Refund requests for RockyGrass must be made on or before April 8, 2022.
- See Tickets can only refund you back to the same card that your tickets were purchased. There will be no refunds after this date. No extensions or exceptions.

The on-site campground features permanent restrooms with real showers and real toilets! The lovely LaVern Johnson (Meadow) Park campground is located across the street about two blocks away, while the Planet Bluegrass Farm camping area is about 0.4 mile from the festival (adjacent to the festival parking area). Please come prepared for a variety of weather conditions. This includes: intense sun, heat, rain, and wind. The show goes on rain or shine! At an altitude of close to 6,000 feet, the weather can change quickly. It can get chilly at night even if the temperature is in the 90s during the day. SUNSCREEN IS A MUST! Please remember to DRINK LOTS OF WATER and WATCH YOUR ALCOHOL consumption, especially if you’re coming from lower elevations.
ALCOHOL, GLASS, and VIDEO CAMERAS are not allowed on the Festival grounds. You’re welcome to bring food and soft drinks in appropriate containers. We serve beer at the Festival (don’t forget your ID!), and we have a wide assortment of vendors with reasonably priced YUMMY FOOD, cool crafts, clothes, and other interesting products.
Audio recording the music at the festival is permitted, unless the performing artist requests otherwise. Recording devices must be self-contained (we do not provide AC outlets or patches from the sound board), and you may not obstruct the view of your fellow Festivarians with your equipment. There is no designated area for taping.
Seating is all general admission lawn seating so bring a tarp or chair. Please use only low-back lawn chairs so folks behind you can see. Dancing is welcome in the designated dance areas. One tarp can be used to reserve space on the grass. For safety and courtesy considerations, you may not sit in the pedestrian walkways. Small tents and lawn chairs are welcome in the rear of the festival grounds. You (and your gear!) will need to clear out of the Festival grounds each day.
Children 12 and under get FREE entry into the festival and campgrounds when accompanied by a ticketed adult. Check out the family tent daily for fun family activities! Please accompany your children at all times.
Campgrounds are equipped with porta potties and fresh water. Hookups are available only at Lavern Johnson (Meadow) Park with an appropriate, pre-purchased RV pass. Showers and real flush toilets are available on-site at our bathhouse.
No wood burning campfires are allowed in any of the campgrounds, regardless of whether an official fire ban has been issued.
Propane fire pits are allowed as long as they are safely supervised by an adult at all times. Please keep our campgrounds safe so that we can continue to allow this option.
Propane stoves are allowed, no charcoal stoves are every allowed.
Please never leave a stove unattended.
Inner tubes can be purchased for a small fee at the local tire store across the street.
Lyons is a small town where you can get the basics. Within a mile or less from the Planet Bluegrass Ranch gate, you can get to the post office, a small grocery store, several restaurants, liquor stores, and coffee shops. Within a two-mile radius, you can find more restaurants, gas stations, a bank, and antique dealers.
We do not have any public phone on site at the Ranch. Cell phone coverage at the ranch can be problematic. Generally, the Verizon and Sprint networks work best in Lyons, and AT&T is among the weakest. Service improves once you are a mile or so away closer to Boulder and Longmont.
If you are planning to fly into Denver International Airport, you have several options to get from Denver to Lyons. The Denver metro bus system, RTD, stops about 1/2 mile from the PB Ranch gate. Another private service, the Estes Park Shuttle, makes four daily runs from DIA to Estes Park, dropping you off at the PB Ranch on the way. The North Denver Airport Shuttle and Superior Shuttle both serve Lyons. For more details, contact these services directly:

There are a number of lodges and motels in the surrounding area, which offer a wide range of accommodations. Visit our lodging page for more information.
From Wednesday, July 27, through Sunday, July 31, LaVern Johnson (Meadow) Park ticket holders and Lyons’ residents will be allowed access to the park. Residency will be determined by ID (from 80540). Lyons residents will be limited to foot traffic only, no vehicles.
